I think not. Yesterday I allowed myself a moment of optimism that maybe adults were starting wake up in the adminstration and come to the realization that not drilling for our own oil in this time of turmoil in the Middle East was not a wise idea.
The Obama administration issued the first new deep-water drilling permit for the Gulf of Mexico since the BP oil spill, stoking cautious optimism Monday among some industry executives and Gulf Coast politicians about local oil and gas exploration.
Well, I shudda known there was the other shoe:
According to a report from Reuters, “BP Plc, whose Macondo well blowout in the Gulf of Mexico caused the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history last year, co-owns the well that was granted the first deepwater drilling permit since the disaster. BP is Noble Energy Inc’s partner in the well, holding a 46.5 percent interest, BP said.”
I’m not much for conspiracy theories, and Lord knows there were enough lurid ones surrounding the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Still, if this story is true, then you have wonder a) Why did the administration penalize and systematically attack BP’s competitors by banning drilling in the Gulf while BP fought the blowout, and b) why is it now giving the first drilling permit to BP?
Whether the reason was paying off friends or trying to inflame the Greens or both, I gotta hand it to Obama… He sure finds a way to turn the right thing wrong every time.
Can we just impeach the bastard?
